Innovation From the Korean Fitness Industry

Our Platform Eliminates Expensive Hardware and Subjective Assessments with Tablet-Based AI Posture Analytics and Personalized Corrective Exercises for Fitness Studios and Rehabilitation Centers.”
— CEO Chulwon Kim and Vice President Jiwoo Park of Witchbox
PANGYO, GYEONGGI-DO, SOUTH KOREA, October 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Witchbox Co., Ltd. was founded in 2018 by a group of practicing physical therapists. The company initially ran its own fitness centers, building practical, firsthand expertise in rehabilitation and exercise. Drawing on that experience, Witchbox expanded into professional education for fitness and rehabilitation specialists, then began its digital transformation by integrating digital content and an online education system, and expanded into overseas markets, including Southeast Asia and Canada. In the process, the company noticed a common problem: trainers at fitness facilities in Malaysia and Indonesia, among other markets, were struggling to assess clients’ posture and explain the results. Witchbox shifted its focus toward becoming an AI-powered IT company to address that problem.

Conventional posture-assessment equipment for a typical fitness facility was bulky and expensive, requiring an upfront cost of KRW 40 million to KRW 50 million (about 29,600 to 37,000 USD), costly and impractical for small studios and freelance instructors. To address that gap, Witchbox developed iPosture Pro, an AI-powered posture assessment and integrated work management platform that runs on widely available mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. Beyond posture assessment, the platform integrates customer relationship management (CRM), scheduling, Digital Sequence Notes, and session records and tracking within a single platform.

The technology behind the platform was built on body data collected and analyzed by Vice President Jiwoo Park, who has more than 18 years of clinical experience, and physical therapists with more than 21 years of experience over more than seven years. The system detects anatomical landmarks regardless of whether the user is wearing loose-fitting or fitted clothing, and its proprietary technology can analyze three-dimensional body alignment from a single front-facing image. By linking with InBody data, the platform also combines internal body composition with external body shape to create an integrated body profile. Built into the platform, a large language model (LLM)-based generative AI automatically creates customized lifestyle guides and personalized rehabilitation exercise programs based on each client’s assessment results.

The company said the product has begun attracting market interest. iPosture Pro recorded 2,500 downloads within its first two weeks after launching in South Korea, and is now in its third week on the market. At a recent exhibition at COEX, Witchbox showcased capabilities comparable to those of equipment costing tens of millions of won, at a fraction of the cost, prompting some visitors to question whether the price-performance proposition was realistic. The company has also expanded its overseas network, signing memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with educational institutions in five countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, China, and Canada. Through these agreements, Witchbox is expanding its education network into a combined “Education + Platform” business model. With support from KOTRA, the company also signed a proof-of-concept (PoC) agreement with Synapse Physio Center, a major physical therapy chain in Malaysia, building reference cases with local partners abroad.

Witchbox has now set up its base in Pangyo Techno Valley to expand its AI development and build connections with startups and investors in the region. Pangyo’s connected and collaborative startup ecosystem has become a foundation for Witchbox’s growth as a digital healthcare company. Chulwon Kim, CEO of Witchbox, said the company plans to launch iPosture Me, a free service for consumers that will let them assess their own posture at home and follow personalized, self-guided exercise recommendations. He added that Witchbox plans to build on its presence in Southeast Asia while expanding into Canada and the United States, aiming to grow into a global platform for fitness, rehabilitation, and wellness professionals.

Pangyo TV met with Witchbox CEO Chulwon Kim and Co-Founder & Vice President Jiwoo Park at the Startup Campus in Pangyo Techno Valley to discuss their mobile-based AI posture diagnostics, 3D anatomical alignment algorithms, and global healthcare expansion strategy. Reporter Thomas Frederiksen conducted the interview.

Q1. Thomas Frederiksen, Reporter: Could you tell us a bit about your company?

A. Chulwon Kim, CEO of Witchbox: Witchbox was founded in 2018 by physical therapists. Initially, we opened fitness and posture care centers, which were an accessible and straightforward way to enter the market. From there, we expanded our business pipeline to include fitness education and later drove digital transformation by pivoting to online education platforms. Through that online education model, we began scaling globally, expanding primarily into Southeast Asia—starting with Malaysia and then Indonesia. In those markets, we noticed a universal challenge: while fitness and movement instructors excel at coaching exercises and body alignment on-site, they consistently struggle to accurately analyze and identify their clients’ underlying physical dysfunctions. To bridge that gap, we integrated AI to systematically analyze biomechanical body data and design actionable corrective exercise programs based on those diagnostic results. That evolution has propelled Witchbox into the AI health-tech enterprise we are today.

Q2. What specific frustrations or bottlenecks did you encounter while running your physical centers and educational programs that convinced you to develop iPosture Pro?

A. Chulwon Kim: While running our Pilates centers, we realized how vital it was to analyze posture, accurately interpret the results, and effectively communicate findings to clients. Later, while running education programs abroad, we saw that fitness instructors struggled to properly interpret posture assessment reports and connect those assessments to client retention and revenue. Furthermore, conventional posture analysis equipment is physically bulky and incurs steep upfront capital costs of KRW 40 million to KRW 50 million, making it practically impossible for small boutique studios to implement. To resolve this, we engineered ‘iPosture Pro’—an accessible, lightweight solution that operates seamlessly on everyday smart devices like tablets and PCs.

Q3. Could you tell us more about how iPosture Pro works? How does it collect body points and analyze client data?

A. Jiwoo Park, Co-Founder and Vice President of Witchbox: Our system was built on a massive foundation of clinical data collected over more than seven years by our co-founder with 18+ years of clinical experience and licensed physical therapists with over 21 years of clinical practice. We continuously measured and analyzed joint points across diverse populations. We then embedded our clinical expertise into that raw data to engineer refined feature datasets. Today, as soon as a person is detected on screen, the AI automatically evaluates movement patterns, joint range of motion (ROM), baseline postural alignment, and integrates with InBody body composition metrics. By merging internal physiological metrics from InBody with external biomechanical posture data, we generate a novel hybrid dataset that provides actionable, clinical-grade clarity on-site.

Q4. Beyond automated assessment, does the platform also provide operational consulting and business retention features?

A. Chulwon Kim: Yes. Because we actively operate our own fitness centers, we understand real-world facility operations firsthand. Our service doesn’t stop at raw analysis; it actively empowers operators to manage clients, track long-term progress, generate direct revenue, and even forecast and prevent client churn by monitoring retention indicators.

Q5. What are your primary target markets and institutional clients?

A. Chulwon Kim: Our primary targets include fitness studios, Pilates centers, and bodywork and massage clinics. Additionally, schools and other public educational institutions show strong interest because posture directly affects adolescent growth and spinal alignment. Senior welfare centers and public healthcare institutions are also actively adopting our posture screening solutions.

Q6. Your expansion into Southeast Asian markets like Malaysia and Indonesia is very impressive. How did your global journey originally begin?

A. Chulwon Kim: We felt the domestic Korean market was relatively small, and we were eager to expand globally from early on. Without established overseas contacts, we took the initiative and sent roughly 10,000 cold emails to fitness institutions worldwide. Of those 10,000 emails, exactly one response came from an organization in Malaysia. We immediately booked flights to Kuala Lumpur despite having very little international infrastructure ready at the time—we didn’t even have English-language manuals or materials prepared yet. We pitched on sheer determination and made a firm commitment to deliver a customized solution within three months. Upon returning to Korea, our team worked tirelessly around the clock to fulfill that promise, which laid the foundation for our international expansion.

Q7. How does the AI model inside iPosture Pro handle technical edge cases during real-world posture screenings?

A. Jiwoo Park: With iPosture Pro, our computer vision model accurately detects joint landmarks regardless of whether the subject is wearing loose clothing or tight athletic wear. Even from a direct frontal photo, it calculates the depth (Z-axis) to capture rotation and torsional alignment. The resulting report goes far beyond merely stating that someone has uneven shoulders or a tilted pelvis. It generates concrete guidelines for habit modification, assesses fall risks in daily scenarios, and prescribes personalized corrective exercise routines. Furthermore, by integrating with automated LLM algorithms, the system dynamically tailors the tone, phrasing, and complexity of the diagnostic report to match the specific context of each client, delivering fully personalized guidance.

Q8. Finally, operating out of Pangyo Techno Valley, what makes this tech cluster such an important base for Witchbox’s growth?

A. Chulwon Kim: Pangyo has been instrumental in complementing our weaknesses. Even when a company possesses strong proprietary core technology, you inevitably need external technical and business capabilities to scale. If we were located outside of Pangyo, finding collaborative tech partners would have required immense time and effort. In Pangyo, leading tech partners and research clusters are situated right next door or within walking distance. Moreover, the Pangyo startup community is exceptionally supportive; posting an inquiry on local founder channels instantly yields helpful advice and collaboration proposals from peers facing similar hurdles. While Pangyo might appear sleek and hyper-competitive from the outside, it is a warm, deeply collaborative ecosystem where startups genuinely support each other’s success.
